THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS -
Hannibal and Clarice become clinician and client, parent and child, despised
and cherished, never ceasing a game of cat and mouse. The serial killer sizes
up the detective’s fancy bag and inexpensive shoes, her West Virginia accent,
and her spunky determination. Both Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins won Academy
Awards for their roles in the 1991 film. Only the third in history to win the “big
five” in a clean sweep. The Silence of the Lambs was directed by Jonathan Demme,
based on the 1988 novel by Thomas Harris. It features an sweeping albeit
discordant overture composed by Howard Shore.
