HARVEY’S DREAM SHORT STORY REVIEW

HARVEY’S DREAM SHORT STORY REVIEW – Harvey’s Dream by Stephen King reminds us that dreams can be scary. Harvey and Janet, a dysfunctional married couple, discuss how he woke up screaming, during a dream where one of their daughters was run over and killed. Who better than King to exploit a human primal fear? It’s a very short story, which first appeared in the New Yorker, and also appears in the collected works entitled ‘Just After Sunset’. Give it a read–and, you’ll find your heart racing as you sort out the differences–between dreams and wakefulness.

THE ASSASSINATION OF GIANNI VERSACE

Will the 2nd season of American Crime Story live up to the legacy of the 1st season? The Assassination of Gianni Versace will certainly face comparisons to The People v. O.J. Simpson. Because the O.J. miniseries was good, really good, and had a stellar cast. American culture changed so much in the 90s, so it’s important to remember how much has happened. In that era, Hollywood was still deeply ensconced in the celluloid closet. So society recoiled more so when informed, via splashy headlines, that a gay serial killer was on the loose. Andrew Cunanan, a name whispered softly in hallways, not overtly stated in polite company. Gianni Versace, did you hear what happened to him? Surely, he must be involved in sordid dealings with this gay serial killer. With the atelier dead and buried, everyone left had to figure out what to do with the company. The Versace brand would likely have died with Gianni’s passing. But somehow Donatella was able to find a way to endure the transition. She and the company survived in the face of cutthroat tastemakers’ fashion whims. Nobody believed she had a shot. Will the miniseries be just as good? My hunch says no, but stay tuned to find out and come to your own conclusion.

GOODBYE CARL?

GOODBYE CARL? - Carl became friends with Sophia, survival camping alongside Lori (his mom) and Shane. After the walker outbreak, they all thought Carl’s father was dead. Until Lori and Rick reunite and together lead the other survivors to the CDC, Herschel’s farm, Woodbury, the prison, Terminus and Alexandria. Shane, Lori, Sophia, Beth and many others die off along the way. Later, little boy Carl transforms into One-Eye-Carl, when a stray bullet half blinds him while battling walkers. Last season ends with a bite by either a Whisperer or a walker? Right now, conspiracy theorists contend Rick passed his superhero invincibility onto his son. So, do you think Carl lives or dies? I have no idea. But you better get ready to say goodbye. Stay tuned.
